The Governors of Gosforth Park First School wish to appoint an HLTA (N6) from September 2025.

This post is initially a fixed term contract from 1st September 2025 until 17th July 2026, term time only (plus 3 training days).

Monday – Friday 8:45 – 3:30 (32.5 hours per week)

Gosforth Park First School is a popular school in the heart of Gosforth, well supported by parents and the local community. We serve a changing population and strive to ensure that the needs of all pupils are met, both socially and academically. Our school community has high aspirations and expectations for the children we serve. We are committed to encouraging children’s understanding and acceptance of other faiths, beliefs and cultures while supporting them to develop their own place in the community, both locally and globally.

The following drivers are at the heart of our broad and balanced curriculum.

Confidence, Challenge, Creativity and Community

Gosforth Park First School has a real sense of family. This is a view shared by pupils, parents and staff. The new motto, ‘together we make a difference’, is felt as you walk through the door. This is a caring, nurturing school. Pupils feel safe and well looked after. They say behaviour is good and they have no worries about bullying – Ofsted (February 2020)

The successful candidates will
  • have experience of supporting learning in all Key Stages within the first school age range
  • have a passion for creating a calm and purposeful learning environment
  • have experience of delivering group learning sessions, including phonics
  • have successful, recent experience of supporting teaching and assessing learning
  • work positively with parents and families and be willing to participate in all aspects of school life
  • have high expectations of children's achievements and behaviour
  • be flexible and work collaboratively and successfully as team members
  • be innovative, creative and imaginative

It would be advantageous to have experience of teaching phonics as well as have had paediatric first aider training (or be willing to undertake this training).

This post is suitable for experienced HLTAs and/or someone with a good level of qualification. The postholder will be expected to be flexible and work additional hours to meet the needs of the school where required.

Gosforth Park First School is strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to obtain an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service and a range of other recruitment checks.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.

As part of the shortlisting process, we may be carrying out an online search as part of our due diligence on the shortlisted candidates. This may help identify any incidents or issues that have happened, and are publicly available online, which we may want to explore with the applicant at interview.

Interested candidates are welcome to come and visit our school for a tour and to meet the Head Teacher on the following date and times:
  • Friday 6th June 4:00 – 4:30
