Further Information
Here in Sunderland we are diversifying how we help and support people who become homeless. We have realigned the Housing Options Team to ensure the team is well placed to meet the needs of all people who are street homeless and those threatened with homelessness. We will work to ensure that all move to and sustain independent living.

For many this journey is not a straight line, therefore we have increased the team and have added more diverse roles to ensure people are supported at every stage of their journey to a safe and secure home. You will note we are recruiting into many new posts, and this is a great time to join a cohesive team who always support each other.

We have shaped a great team structure which will help homeless clients to move on with their lives, as well as being equipped to sustain a safe home.

The role of the Housing Options Team Leader is to support the Housing Options Manager to deliver a high-quality homeless service which meets the requirements of the Homeless Reduction Act 2017 and the needs of all service users.

The post holder will work closely with those working on the front line to identify suitable housing solutions by also working with a range of partners to prevent and relieve homelessness.

The service faces challenges brought about from a high level of demand. The right person must show resilience and the ability to work with high caseloads and support all staff to do so.

The role also requires submitting Government returns and responding to formal enquiries such as Freedom of Information requests.

You should have a background of working in housing, homelessness, or a similar field with a good understanding of homeless legislation, statutory guidance and case law along with knowledge of vulnerable people and the housing challenges they may face.

You should have a good track record of providing and delivering effective solutions to homeless households. You should also have experience of monitoring temporary accommodation and delivering effective move on solutions to ensure placements are appropriate and kept to a minimum.

The post holder should have some experience in line management with the ability to motivate staff, problem solve and deal with a range of enquiries.

This role can be demanding but rewarding, providing a real opportunity to help people in need access the services they require.

This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
