Sunderland City Council is seeking a self-motivated, Learning Officer to join our Hylton Castle Project team to help co-ordinate and to deliver educational outreach activities at Hylton Castle in Sunderland.

Hylton Castle is a Grade I Listed 14th Century Gatehouse set in extensive grounds comprising parkland and woodland and including a Scheduled Ancient Monument, an SSSI and a Local Wildlife Site. With the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and other funders, we’re refurbishing the castle and creating a community run heritage-led learning centre. We’ll be telling the story of the special nature of the castle and the wider site to visitors and learners of all ages. Crucial to the success of the wider project, we will recruit a small team of local young people and apprentices to support front line delivery operations.

The Hylton Castle project presents an opportunity to interpret and share both the rich cultural heritage of the castle and the biodiversity of the adjacent Hylton Dene. Experience of formal and informal teaching, education and / or lifelong learning and subject knowledge of local history, built or natural heritage would be an advantage.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th July at a location near Hylton Castle, Sunderland.

For an informal discussion please contact Elanor Johnson, Learning Manager on 0191 561 8611 or email Elanor.johnson@sunderland.gov.uk
