As such we are looking to recruit a creative and enthusiastic individual who has a strong desire to build upon and develop their technical and personal skills, has passion for software and systems development and is looking to gain valuable and demonstrable experience in the workplace.

You will help deliver work required by the Systems & Software Team within the IT Service as defined in the IT workplan. This will include, but is not limited to, providing support and assistance in the development, delivery and management of services and support specific to council’s extensive IT application portfolio. The role will support the IT Service with its responsibility for digital services transformation.

This apprenticeship role will provide the opportunity to develop, apply and strengthen your existing skills, knowledge, and experience by way of practical application. Opportunities to gain a broad range of experiences in many aspects of IT Service Management and system support and development such as but not limited to coding/scripting database management, software change, release and deployment, Microsoft applications and infrastructure.

In addition, you will work towards a funded Level 3 Software Development Apprenticeship qualification, supported by a strong mentorship underpinned by professional management and leadership and the council’s Apprenticeship team.

The council holds ambassador status for the North East Better Health at Work Award.

Essential Requirements
Apprenticeship opportunities are open to anyone over the age of 16 years old with no upper age limit.

You will need to have a minimum of:
Grade 4 (equivalent to Grade C or above) at GCSE English and Maths or functional skills level 2 qualification in English and Maths.

You will need to be committed/willing to work towards the level 3 qualification.

This is a fixed-term contract for 15 months. National Minimum Wage for your age will apply after the first year.
