You will not be employed by Newcastle City Council
Newcastle City Council Audit Committee
Can you bring a fresh perspective to complex issues? Could you contribute to stewardship of the city’s assets and resources? Newcastle City Council currently has an exciting and rewarding opportunity for an individual with an open and independent perspective to support our elected members. We have a vacancy for an independent member on Audit Committee, which forms part of the governance structure of the council.
Audit Committee is responsible for ensuring that the Council’s systems of governance and internal control are working effectively and that internal audit is operating in accordance with agreed procedures. The length of the term of office will be determined on appointment. An allowance of £878 per year will be paid.
Applicants must not have been a member or officer of the Council within the past five years, or be a relative or close friend of a member or officer of the Council, nor have close business or professional links with the Council. In addition, applicants will be non-political and preferably not be a member of any political party (especially not an active member).
The work will be challenging and innovative and provides a real opportunity for you to make an active contribution to our corporate governance. Impartiality, strategic awareness, analytical skills and experience of organisational level governance and risk management are more important than formal accounting or audit qualifications.
If you feel you have the experience and personal qualities to undertake this role, please see the individual role description for details of how to apply.
The closing date for receipt of applications is midday Monday 30 April 2018.
