The team…
IT Services, within the Resources and Digital Directorate, operates at the very core of the Council's operations, working with services and key stakeholders to empower employees to deliver the Council priorities through the use of technology.
We have made a significant investment into the IT Strategy to further support the council’s ambitions, with the key goals of Service, Value, Security and Agility.
We use Microsoft Active Directory alongside Microsoft Entra ID to manage and monitor the Gateshead domain, ensuring over 4600 users have secure access to their required applications, files and folders.
We manage and safeguard over 400 servers with our corporate backup solution, and utilise systems such as VMware, Citrix, Azure and Microsoft 365.

We are looking for an Infrastructure Support Officer Officer within the IT Infrastructure Team to support the Council’s physical and virtual server infrastructure, assist in managing the Council’s backup solution,
The successful candidate will:
- Support the Council’s virtual and physical server environment to ensure maximum availability of systems.
- Assist in supporting the Councils Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 environment.
- Plan, prepare and monitor production schedules in accordance with the overall schedule of work.
- Assist in managing the Council’s backup and recovery solution.
- Perform regular updates and upgrades to current systems.
- Monitor, troubleshoot and maintain the production environment.
- Work with IT Business Solutions officers in regularly reviewing operational procedures and controls to ensure efficient methods of working are maintained.
- Ensure that all records of operations are kept including control documentation.
- Liaise with customers and suppliers on issues involving the operational function ensuring resolution of any potential problems.
