NETSA is looking for a highly motivated enthusiastic self-starter, with good interpersonal skills and a background in enforcement - preferably within a Trading Standards environment. Applicants will be required to deliver verbal and written investigation reports, need good problem solving skills, be able to research open and closed sources of information in support of their investigative role, be familiar with the Criminal and Civil legal systems and be computer literate.

The North East Trading Standards Association (NETSA) is a partnership organisation comprised of the twelve Local Authority Trading Standards Services across the North East of England.

NETSA manages the North East Regional Investigations Team on behalf of National Trading Standards (NTS) and has a vacancy for a part-time Investigations Officer to deliver enforcement activity across NETSA's priority areas; including Doorstep Crime and breachs of intellectual property legislation within the region.

The North East Regional Investigations Team is based in Middlesbrough. It is tasked work through it's partners via an intelligence-led approach and works as "lead investigator" on behalf of local Trading Standards Services seeking its assistance on regional matters. It also liaises with regulatory agencies including the Police, HM Revenue and Customs and the Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency, together with private bodies such as the Federation Against Copyright Theft, in delivering it's regional responsibilities.

The Team is funded through National Trading Standards on behalf of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy but you will be employed on a local basis through Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council - the lead authority for NETSA in this field. Whilst based in Middlesbrough the successful applicant will be expected to travel throughout the North East and across the UK (as required). The salary includes an allowance to cover, very exceptional, evening / early morning and weekend or bank holiday working.

Although the post is advertised at 0.8fte applicants should be aware that initial appointment will be on a full time (1.0fte) basis for a short period - likely to be around 3 months - with the additional salary being covered through in-house maternity savings.

Redcar & Cleveland Council have an attractive benefits package including:-

- Generous annual leave (minimum 28 days, pro rata)
- Flexible working hours
- Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme
- Family friendly benefits
- Childcare voucher scheme
- Staff discount scheme
- Discount leisure facilities

In the absence of any exceptional circumstances which render it necessary in the best interests of the Council to do so, the Council will generally not reengage any individual whom has previously been employed by the Council and left that employment with the benefit of a severance, early retirement or redundancy payment under voluntary arrangements. This principle will apply whether such re-engagement is to be under a contract of employment, contract of services or otherwise.
