This post offers an exciting opportunity for a creative, motivated art specialist to join the art team at Tyne and Wear Archives & Museums. We are seeking a Keeper of Art to manage the collections at the Hatton Gallery and to work with the art team under the direction of the Chief Curator to deliver the art galleries exhibition programme. The post holder will be mainly based at the Hatton Gallery but will also work between the Laing Art Gallery and Shipley Art Gallery with a close team of colleagues.

The Hatton Gallery on Newcastle University’s campus has recently undergone a £3.8 million refurbishment. Gallery improvements include the conservation of the architectural and historical elements of the building alongside the modernisation of gallery spaces allowing for flexible exhibition facilities, a dedicated multi - purpose learning space, improved lighting, a new picture store and conservation and reinterpretation of Kurt Schwitters’ iconic Merz Barn Wall.

A degree or equivalent qualification or experience in art/art history with a strong interest in modern art, experience of managing staff or volunteers, of working with collections including documentation, interpretation and exhibition organisation are essential.
