Street Zero is the new ambitious local plan which seeks to make it everyone’s business to ending rough sleeping in Newcastle by 2022. This is five years ahead of the government’s target to end rough sleeping in the UK by 2027. A Rough Sleeper Co-ordinator is required to help the Council and its partners achieve this ambitious target. The Rough Sleeper Co-ordinator will provide leadership and dedicated coordination that is responsive to the needs of people who end up on the streets. This post will work as part of the Councils Active Inclusion Service.
Newcastle has a good track record in addressing the causes and consequences of homelessness and rough sleeping. We know that ending rough sleeping won’t be easy. This is not only due to the complex needs of individuals, but also fragmented systems and the structural deficits that exist. The Rough Sleeper Co-ordinator will help to change the system and service offer for those whom fragmented services don’t work for. The Rough Sleeper Co-ordinator will help to build trust and develop learning by testing new approaches with partners and provide additional capacity to work across the multiple systems and services that directly support people who sleep rough and/or are at risk.
The successful candidate should have a proven track record of providing support to and co-ordinating responses for adults who experience multiple and complex problems. The candidate should also be analytical and be able to demonstrate an understanding of how to use evidence to inform service and system change.
