Highfield Middle School in Prudhoe are looking for a Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join their staff team to aid them in their aim to provide the highest standards of education, academic excellence, pupil well-being and personal development.

Support for pupils
  • Use specialist skills, training, or experience to support pupils learning and support for pupils including the personal needs of pupils. The implementation of personal learning programmes that may included social, health, physical hygiene and welfare objectives.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of IEPs.
  • Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding to the needs of each individual child.
  • To actively promote inclusive practice within the classroom setting to ensure acceptance of all children.
  • Encourage children to play and interact with one another.
  • Encourage children to engage in, and participate in learning activities lead by the class teacher.
  • To have high expectations that encourage children to act independently and build self esteem.
  • Provided feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement.
Support for the Teacher
  • Work with the teacher to create and maintain a purposeful and orderly learning environment in line with lesson plans as provided by the supervising teacher.
  • Adapt and adjust lesson objectives and implement the learning as appropriate.
  • Monitor and evaluate pupils responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against agreed, predetermined, learning objectives.
  • Provide the teacher with accurate and objective feedback on pupil progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of supporting evidence.
  • Undertake the maintenance of pupils records and accurately record achievement.
  • Support the teacher in the management of pupil behaviour.
  • Gather information from parents and carers as directed.
  • Establish constructive relationships with parents and carers and participate in feedback sessions as directed.
  • Administer routine tests and invigilate exams.
  • Undertake the routine marking of pupils work eg routine spelling tests, routine maths tests etc.
  • Provide the classroom teacher with clerical and admin support, particularly undertaking bulk photocopying, word processing, filing and collecting money.
  • As directed by the teacher, prepare the classroom prior to the lesson, clear up after the lesson, and assist with the display of pupils work.
  • Support the CurriculumImplement agreed teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses and needs.
  • Help pupils to understand instructions.
  • Implement local and national learning strategies and make effective use of opportunities provided by other learning activities to support the development of relevant skills.
  • Support use of ICT in learning and develop pupil’s competence and independence in its use.
  • Help pupils access learning activities through specialist support.
  • Determine the need for, prepare and maintain equipment and resources required to meet learning activities and assist pupils in their use.
