The Hermitage Academy is looking to appoint a Maths Tutor. Maybe you are a recent graduate of Maths, possibly considering a career in teaching but need vital classroom experience before making the leap or you have an A Level in Maths and would love the opportunity to inspire and encourage young people to learn. We have a vacancy for a highly motivated person to support student progress in Maths. The role will be offered on a fixed term basis initially and may become permanent depending on Academy needs. The role could be full-time, part-time or flexible depending on the right person.

The post will involve working 1-1 and with small groups of students, predominately in Yr 11, to understand their needs and goals for the academic year. The students you will be working with may well be high prior attaining students who need their progress in Maths accelerating ahead of their GCSE exams. You may also be expected to work with some students who will have weak literacy and/or a SEND need.

You should be able to display good communication skills as you will be interacting with students, staff and parents in a polite and approachable manner and be proactive in supporting the students’ development and encourage them to achieve the best possible results. You must be committed and determined to develop the students with your strong knowledge.

You will work closely with the Learning Leader for Maths and the Director of Achievement for Year 11 as well as teaching staff in the department to help provide appropriate intervention as well as contributing to the assessment, tracking and monitoring of the progress students make. This will give hands on essential experience for an aspiring teacher. If you think you could excel at supporting students, we would be delighted to discuss this further.

An application pack can also be downloaded via the Academy Website (www.thehermitageacademy.net) and posted to the Academy address shown or emailed to (ecunnison@thehermitageacademy.net) If you have any queries or would like to visit please contact Mrs E Cunnison at the Academy (Telephone: 0191 3887161) or email.
