Durham Music Service requires a Peripatetic Vocal Teacher and Musical Director for Durham County Youth Choir.

Durham Music Service is the lead partner in the Music Education Hub for County Durham and Darlington.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Durham Music Service for a peripatetic vocal teacher. We are looking to appoint a well-qualified, experienced, committed, motivated, hard-working, organised and enthusiastic colleague to achieve the highest standards for our music students. As part of the post the successful candidate will lead and direct Durham County Youth Choir. This is one of Durham Music Service’s flagship senior ensembles and performs in high profile events within Durham and Darlington and beyond. The choir rehearses weekly during term time (Friday 5 – 7pm) and would be expected to be involved in additional weekend/evening concerts during term time.

Applicants must have a recognised vocal music performance qualification (Grade 8 or equivalent) and either a teaching qualification or previous teaching experience. They must also be able to demonstrate a high standard of choral conducting.

We are keen to invite applications from teachers who wish to be involved in delivering both small group tuition and whole class ‘First Access’ programmes. The job involves travel across County Durham /Darlington Borough and candidates must be able to meet this provision. Teachers employed by the service enjoy nationally agreed conditions of service.
