Further Information
Northumberland County Council is looking to recruit an Energy Policy Officer. This is a new post within the recently established Economy and Regeneration Service, whose core purpose is to deliver the Council’s priority of Economic Growth. This includes the influencing national and regional policy and co-ordinating and driving forward of the delivery of regeneration and economic growth projects within the County.

You will work as part of a team responsible for strategic transport and energy policy within the Place Directorate. The main objective being to develop an Energy Strategy for the council and work with local partners to position the authority to capitalise on emerging funding opportunities including through the North of Tyne Combined Authority.

The main responsibilities include:

Development of the Council’s policy framework.
To manage the preparation and delivery of thematic action plans as required for the delivery of the Economic Strategy.
Lead on strands of thematic activity specifically relating to climate change and renewable energy.
To provide professional advice and support to a range of Council members, officers and external partners.
To assist in the appointment and management of externally commissioned work.
To supervise, manage and motivate staff, coordinating and delegating work as appropriate.

You will be educated to degree or equivalent level in a subject related to climate change or renewable energy. You will have experience in undertaking strategic policy development and will have a knowledge of current policies, procedures,trends and developments in an energy related area. You will have experience of managing projects to achieve set objectives.You will possess excellent written skills and be able to communicate and engage with a wide audience and be skilled at building productive partnerships.

This is an excellent opportunity for a professional within the energy sector to develop their experience and apply their knowledge to an exciting and expanding area of work within the Council. The post is offered on a 3 year fixed term basis.
