Democratic Services is looking to recruit a Political Assistant to provide effective support to the Council’s Middlesbrough Independent Councillors Association (MICA) Group.

In summary, the specific tasks and responsibilities of the post include researching, evaluating and analysing specific areas of interest to the Group; providing the Group with information in the form of reports, briefs and statistics; briefing the Group on policy matters and general issues affecting local government and the Council; keeping abreast of developments within local government and the Council; providing an administrative and support service to the Group, its activities and to its meetings and developing systems and procedures for the Group. The post holder will be responsible to the Group Leader and Secretary of the Political Group. This is a Politically Restricted post. Agile working is available.

The successful candidate will have:

• An up-to-date knowledge of the administration of local government Member decision-making processes.
• An awareness of the political environment and an ability to relate to, and work with, Elected Members.
• Sound and effective I.T skills.
• An understanding of Council policies in respect of rules of procedure and local conventions/protocols.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines.
