The Service
The Procurement department provides a strategic procurement service for Northumberland County Council. Working within the Contracting Team dealing with all procurement requirements for contracts with a value of over £50k, you will be primarily responsible to assist the team with various tender processes to appoint suppliers for lower risk/lower value projects undertaken in accordance with the Council’s Financial and Statutory Regulations and EU Public Procurement Regulations.

The role
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Contracting Team of the Procurement department for a Procurement Contracting Administrator. Although applicants do not need to have any prior experience, they must be willing to undertake duties to gain experience in an office based role within the contracting team, all duties will be supported with offsite apprenticeship training.

The responsibilities of the role are to work closely with members of the Contracting team as well as internal and external clients to assist with the everyday responsibilities of a busy contracting team. With a focus on lower value, lower risk projects, you will support team members in the delivery of a wide range of projects and will assist with a varied range of tasks required on the advertising, tendering, evaluating and awarding of contracts. Covering a vast range of council services the work will be wide ranging and will allow the apprentice to develop a wide range of skills and knowledge of public sector procurement.

The Procurement Contracting Administrator is expected to deliver their responsibilities efficiently and with integrity – showing a positive attitude. The role involves demonstrating strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and adopting a proactive approach to developing skills. You will also be expected to show initiative, managing priorities and your own time, problem-solving skills, decision-making, and the ability to deal with confidential documentation.

What you need:
- GCSE Maths and English Grade 4/C or above (or predicted) or Level 2 Functional skills.
- Dedication and commitment to complete your apprenticeship over 18 months.
