Further Information
Darlington Borough Council seeks to appoint a new Licensing Manager to lead the growth, development and future vision of licensing services in Darlington.

The Licensing Service is essential in protecting the public and promoting the growth and development of a safe and vibrant community through good regulatory practice.

This is a challenging and exciting role requiring a confident and self-motivated individual with a demonstrable track record of exceptional leadership and delivery of key licensing services.

We are looking for an individual who is resilient, flexible in approach and who promotes a 'can do' and positive attitude in a challenging working environment. You should be hardworking and creative and we would welcome applications from those with enforcement and managerial experience, along with the right attitude and passion to lead a proactive licensing team, engaging with business owners, licensees and the public.

Duties will include working with a variety of stakeholders to ensure the flawless provision of a comprehensive licensing service, processing license and registration applications, offering professional expertise to colleagues and contributing to the legal process which includes Court hearings. You will also be expected to present at public enquiries, offer mediation when parties are conflicted and develop future policies relating to licensing.

You will be required to investigate complaints and present applications and reports to our Licensing Sub-Committee for review which will involve good written skills. There will also be an expectation of occasional out of hours work as and when required including weekends.

We want you to flourish in the role, so we will give you the freedom to explore how we can improve our capabilities. Using your outstanding communication skills to explain legislation and procedures, you will have a good level of scientific and technical knowledge – and the drive to make the most of the opportunities and exceptional projects we can offer to you.

If you’re as productive as you are ambitious and collaborative as you are enterprising, this is your chance to take real ownership of your work.
