The North Pennines AONB Partnership is looking to fill its Peatland Programme Research Officer post. This post will support our Peatland team which aims to better understand, restore and celebrate our internationally important peatlands. This is a great opportunity to help deliver an ambitious peatland research and restoration programme within a small team in one of England's largest upland peatland habitats.
The postholder’s work will include developing new and supporting our established research and monitoring projects, working with the academic community and liaising with other peatland initiatives nationally.
The post offered is an initial one year contract with potential for extension thereafter. The post is based at the AONB Partnership's offices in the market town of Stanhope, in Weardale, County Durham and employed by our host authority Durham County Council.
The North Pennines AONB Partnership’s Peatland Programme has been delivering peatland restoration work at a landscape level since 2006. The programme has four main objectives:
1. Restoration: Supporting restoration and management work;
2. Research: Supporting and disseminating new and existing research;
3. Celebration: Raising appreciation and understanding of peatlands;
4. Promoting best practice: Provision of management advice.
You will ensure the delivery of the research elements of the Peatland Programme and lead on the monitoring of our restoration work. You will ideally have particular experience of working with a wide range of partners and will be required to communicate about our peatland work with our current partners including Natural England, Environment Agency, The Moorland Association, IUCN and landowners.
