Your normal place of work will be Aycliffe Secure Centre, but you may be required to work at any Council workplace within County Durham.

Aycliffe Secure Centre is a standard bearer of residential accommodation for vulnerable young people proven by the ‘Good’ status from OFSTED since 2022. The staff at Aycliffe provide a caring, therapeutic, and motivational environment for young people aged between 10 and 18. Our young people are vulnerable due to complex histories which can include neglect, trauma or interaction with the Youth Custody Service.

THE ROLE
This is an extremely rewarding role; you will play a significant part in the rehabilitation of our young people and provide support and encouragement to enable them to successfully return to their families or go on to live independent lives within the community.
As a Residential Worker, having the best interests of young people at heart is of paramount importance, you will be challenged but more importantly, you will experience first-hand the differences that can be made with your care, compassion, and time.
You will take responsibility as part of the team for one of the secure children’s homes, supporting the rest of the staff team. Duties would include:
Being a positive role model for vulnerable young people supporting them within a residential setting.
Helping young people make progress towards positive outcomes in relation to health and wellbeing.
Setting outstanding standards of practice outlined within the Children’s Homes regulation 2015.

TRAINING
We offer a comprehensive four-week induction and shadowing programme for all new members of the team as well as excellent ongoing training and development opportunities. Alongside this, we provide dedicated one-to-one time to reflect upon workplace practice and facilitate access to specialist support when needed. We offer qualifications for all colleagues who want to progress and will support them in achieving a Level 3 in Diploma for Residential Childcare.
HOURS OF WORK
You will work an average 37 hours per week in a designated shift pattern between 7.00am – 11pm. There is also a requirement to work bank holidays and weekends as well as sleep-in duties.
