The post is based at the Oaks Secondary School which is a generic special school for pupils who have moderate, severe, or profound and multiple learning difficulties or Autism Spectrum Conditions. The school has received an “outstanding” grading from Ofsted in its last three inspections.
The Oaks is federated with Evergreen Primary School at Bishop Auckland and there may be a requirement to work at Evergreen.

The Governors wish to appoint a school secretary to provide secretarial and administrative service to the Executive Head teacher and other senior staff, commencing on the 1st September 2018. This is a temporary appointment to cover maternity leave and will end on the return of the post holder. The secretaries are the first point of contact at the reception and on the telephone, and support the school in a wide range of clerical duties.

The successful candidate would be expected to attend up to three training days prior to taking up the post which would be paid.

Candidates should have general experience of clerical work and be able to work as part of a team. Experience of working in a school setting is desirable, but not essential. Good communication skills, both written and oral, and a high level of numeracy are essential, along with good word processing skills, including speed typing. Knowledge and experience of school administrative and ICT systems are desirable.

Applicants should also have 4 GCSE’s at grades A-C (including English & Maths) or equivalent, and preferably hold a typing and word processing qualification.
The work is varied and demanding so the successful candidate will be hardworking, flexible and versatile.
