Advanced Mathematics Support Programme Area Coordinator
Fixed term: 1 September 2018 until 30 April 2020

Gateshead Council is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic educational professional with substantial experience of teaching A level Mathematics, Further Mathematics and/or Core Maths to take on the role of Advanced Mathematics Support Programme Area Co-ordinator for the North East region. This post is part of the national Advanced Mathematics Support Programme, AMSP.

You will play a key role in the operation of the AMSP working as part of a team of Area Coordinators across the North East region. You will be responsible for the effective management of support for schools and colleges in improving the teaching and learning of level 3 mathematics, in order to increase student participation in your area.

The work includes:
Organising activities and events to promote level 3 mathematics to students in Key Stage 4;
Organising tuition for students of Further Mathematics, when schools and colleges are unable to provide it directly themselves;
Organising professional development for teachers of GCSE, A level Maths and Further Maths, and Core Maths;
Advising and supporting schools and colleges with developing their level 3 mathematics provision;
Co-ordinating support for students preparing for university mathematics entrance examinations and liaising with Maths Hubs and other stakeholders to improve level 3 mathematics in your area.

You will have:
A degree in mathematics or a very closely related subject;
A mathematics teaching qualification;
Experience of teaching in secondary schools of at least 5 years;
Experience of teaching level 3 mathematics (A level maths/further maths and/or core maths);
Experience of creating schemes of work for teaching towards examinations;
A thorough prior knowledge of the UK school system;
Be a confident and enthusiastic teacher;
Be able to communicate clearly and effectively, including writing reports and public speaking;
Have knowledge of educational administration and assessment procedures in UK secondary education;
A high level of ICT skills;
Excellent organisational skills;
Current driving licence and access to a car, or means to mobility support with appropriate insurance.

The starting date is 1 September 2018 or as soon as possible after this date. The post is offered for a fixed term until 30 April 2020 in the first instance.
