The Service
Northumberland Archives role is to collect, preserve and make available records relating to the history of our county. We operate from two service points – Woodhorn in south-east Northumberland and Berwick-upon- Tweed in the north. A team of twenty one work across the two service points. We are an Accredited Archive Service and an Approved Place of Deposit. We offer a full range of public services operating two public search rooms and participating in education and outreach activities across the county. In 2017 our service moved back into Northumberland County Council management and we form part of the authority’s Information Services.

The role
The Senior Archivist is a new role that will provide support into both service points – Woodhorn and Berwick-upon-Tweed. Based at Woodhorn, it is a key role that will support the development of our service moving forward. The postholder will be responsible for some aspects of operational management particularly around the delivery of some aspects of public service including searchroom services, volunteer projects and the development and delivery of education and outreach services. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

Essential requirements:
First degree.
Post-graduate qualification in Archive Administration or equivalent.
At least two years’ experience of working in a Local Authority Archive.
Experience of managing staff and volunteers.
Experience of collection management and cataloguing of records.
Experience of operating public enquiry services.
Experience of using CALM cataloguing system or similar.
