Further information

“This is Redcar and Cleveland. We are an ambitious council keen to build on our strong track record of innovation and partnership working, ensuring that we create a flourishing future for the borough and all of its residents. Key to this is a committed workforce who always gives their best. Offering a fast paced, progressive working environment, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is a great career move.”

Redcar and Cleveland is an area of great contrasts with world class industries, market towns, visitor destinations, beautiful coastline and stunning countryside. The Council continues to invest in the area to create opportunities for investment and growth. Key to this work is the Economic Growth directorate which leads on our efforts to build upon successful investment and develop an exciting growth programme that will bring long-term improvements to the local economy, create jobs and build vibrant communities.

The Council is seeking to recruit a senior planning officer to support the delivery of its Development Management service. You will form part of a team with responsibility for dealing with the full range of planning applications, the discharge of planning conditions, monitoring of sites under construction and planning enforcement. Supported by the Development Services Manager you will have responsibility for your own caseload of planning applications and planning enquiries and have the ability to deal with this caseload within service time limits.

You must have a good knowledge of current legislation, regulations, policies, procedures and case law relating to development management and planning. You should have experience in planning, in particular within Development Management, be able to communicate effectively and be able to understand plans. It’s essential that you’re computer literate with the ability to adapt various software packages. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated candidate who is able to work as an individual but also as part of a team delivering a responsive development management service to business and the community.

You are required to have a full driving licence and the ability to conduct site visits.

The council is an accredited Investors in People employer at gold level and holds ambassador status for the North East Better Health at Work Award.

We offer very attractive terms and conditions of employment, including generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working hours (where appropriate), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and access to numerous other salary sacrifice schemes and staff benefits/discounts, including a lease car scheme
