Further Information
Join us as a Senior Planning Policy Officer

The North East Combined Authority is embarking on an ambitious programme to develop its first statutory Spatial Development Strategy (SDS), and we are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Planning Policy Officer to help shape the future of the region. This is a unique opportunity to play a leading role in designing strategic policies that will guide sustainable development, regeneration and inclusive growth across the North East. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the North East CA and the seven Local Planning Authorities, you will contribute to a major piece of regional planning that will influence how people live, work and thrive for years to come.

As a key member of the new Spatial Planning Team, you will lead on the development of regional spatial policy, with a particular focus on housing and employment land. You will provide expert planning advice to support the delivery of affordable and social housing, healthy and safe communities, and major economic growth areas including the Tyne Investment Zone and AI Growth Zone. Your work will underpin the evidence base for the SDS, contribute to vital policy documents and monitoring reports, and support the development and review of the regional Infrastructure Delivery Plan. You will also play a central role in ensuring the region remains informed and responsive to emerging national planning legislation and best practice.

This role requires strong partnership working, and you will help build productive relationships with local authorities, government agencies, developers, infrastructure providers and other stakeholders. You may also represent the organisation at regional and national forums, championing the interests of the North East and helping to shape investment and policy priorities. In addition, you will support the delivery of the Mayor’s statutory planning powers, providing professional input on planning applications of strategic importance and contributing to wider strategies for Mayoral Development Zones.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and particularly encourage candidates who are underrepresented in senior roles, including women, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people and those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented planning professional to make a significant impact on the future of the region. If you have the skills and qualities to succeed in this role, we look forward to hearing from you.
