We are seeking to appoint a qualified Approved Mental Health Practitioner to work across Gateshead's locality area. The role is that of full time AMHP of 37 Hours. Duties will focus on conducting statutory Mental Health Act 1983 assessments of both an emergency and planned nature and also of the management of those service users who are subject to S117 discharge arrangements. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act (amended 2007) and its interface with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and of related case law is critical to this role. As such an on going Post Qualifying / professional training, support and AMHP supervision will be available.


You will be expected to undertake Mental Health Act duties; other duties will include involvement with S117 case review work, and as required engagement with AMHP student mentoring role.


You will have effective communication skills, a flexible and self-motivated approach, and be committed to equal opportunities, anti-oppressive practice and interagency working. Required qualifications are CCS, CQSW, Degree in Social
Work or equivalent qualifying certification as a nurse, occupational therapist or chartered psychologist,
and an essential is that you hold post graduate certificate as an Approved Social worker/ AMHP and have current practice experience in this specialist field of work. You must also have a current driving licence and access to a car or mobility support. You will have experience of working with people with complex mental health and physical needs, assessment work and arranging packages of care are is essential. Experience of the monitoring and reviewing process is also essential.
