Why work for South Tyneside – the key benefits?

Not only is South Tyneside a great place to live and bring up your family, it is also a great place to work. As a children’s social worker in South Tyneside you will benefit from, low caseloads, excellent ICT case recording systems, strong support from experienced Managers, as well as being supported to continue to be an excellent practitioner where you will benefit from extensive specialist training opportunities, carer pathway planning, access to the most up to date social work research, management development and the support you need to make a real difference to the children and families of South Tyneside.

We believe in children and young people and by offering the right service, at the right time and in the right way we can make a real and sustained change. This is why we have remodelled our children’s home, developed an edge of care service, invested in our commitment to children and young people’s participation, remodelled our front door team and continued to work hand in hand with our Early Help Team offering the best possible early intervention and support to help make that difference. Our CRT, SSF and ILAC teams are small which ensures a greater degree of supervision, team support and a more appropriate caseload level ensuring our involvement is purposeful and well resourced.

What do we want in return?

We want social workers who have real commitment to improving outcomes for children, young people and their families. We are looking for social workers who have experience of working with children in need and of carrying out safeguarding investigations in a multi-agency environment. We want social workers who are confident in carrying out assessments, assessing risk, presenting evidence in court and capable of accurately reflecting and reporting complex information to a variety of audiences. We want social workers who are organised and able to manage their workload independently, demonstrating initiative and creativity in their interviews and with the plans they make, whilst also being able to respond to unexpected situations and deal with potential conflict. We want people who care and have ambition for the children and young people they work alongside.

Our social worker positions are career graded so there is a clear pathway through progression which is supported all the way. As you move up you will meet increasing levels of responsibility, complexity of work and a higher emotional demand, which is supported all the way. As we invest in developing our senior practitioners and managers of tomorrow we also embrace opportunities to develop consultant social workers and champions harnessing the knowledge and skills of our social work profession.
