There are several exciting new opportunities within Northumberland to work with children, young people and their families.

We are looking for social workers who have completed their ASYE to work with young people post 14+ who are Looked After, Children in Need and Care Leavers to work within Northumberland Adolescent Service (NAS). The young people and families you will work with may have experienced, substance misuse, be at risk of offending or reoffending, they may have health vulnerabilities such as mental health, they may be a risk of family breakdown resulting in homelessness and may have unmet educational needs. Some of these young people may be at risk of harm and also experiencing child sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation and other vulnerabilities such as Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking children.

The young people and families we work with might experience a wide range of Social/Health and Criminal vulnerabilities which put them at risk of harm or who at risk of harm to others; these vulnerabilities are not exclusive but would be substance misuse

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment, ideally with direct experience of working with adolescents.

You will always want to hear the young persons voice and ensure that this is taken into account.

You will have excellent communication skills and be able to make decisions and plans with young people and their families.

You will be able to contribute to the development of the service.

You will have a sound knowledge base of the Knowledge and Skills Statement for Child and Family Social Work and the application of Professional Capabilities Framework which will be embedded within all elements of your practice.

You will be empathetic and sensitive to the needs of children, young people and families.

You will understand the importance of performance information and your contribution to maintaining high standards.

You will have excellent communication skills and be able to convey complex messages in a straightforward way, both verbally and in writing.

You will not be afraid to think creatively to solve problems.

You will be passionate about maximising a young persons life chances to improve their overall outcomes.

You will care enough to want to make a difference - every day.

You should hold a relevant Social Work qualification such as the Social Work Degree, DipSW, CQSW or CSS and be registered with the HCPC.
