Middlesbrough is a fantastic place, proud of its heritage and ambitious enough to shape an entirely different future. We have set out our city-scale plans to deliver over GBP 600 million of investment that will promote economic growth and strengthen both our regional and national reputation as a destination of choice.

Our ambition for our children and young people is equally high with a workplace culture that has high expectations, high challenge and high support.

Following a challenging inspection, we are pleased to be working with our children, young people and their families, our employees and partner agencies to transform our social work practices and make a difference to the lives of the families and young people of Middlesbrough.

Why work for Middlesbrough?

No two days really are ever the same, much as no two children or families are the same! Are you up for the challenge?

Are you passionate, tenacious and solution focused? Are children and families at the Heart of what you do and do you really want to make an impact in children’s lives?

If this is you, we would love you to join us and make a difference – supporting our families by wrapping around them when they need your help, stepping up and being there when things get tough and making a difference to our Middlesbrough Children

We are recruiting social workers across our safeguarding, looked after and care experienced teams and we want the best. We actively seek and encourage applications from Disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME); and LGBTQ+ candidates.

For your experience and skills, we offer a competitive salary, fantastic and plentiful training opportunities, career development and an attractive ‘Welcome Aboard’ payment of £5000* (subject to satisfactory probation period). *subject to national insurance and tax

Social Work Academy Team – Newly Qualified Social Workers

In Middlesbrough we have a comprehensive offer for Newly Qualified Social Workers throughout their Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE). This includes 6-months in the newly established Social Work Academy. The Academy has been set up in recognition of the fact that NQSW should be provided with a high level of support, training and reflective space to prepare for practice. In Middlesbrough out NQSWs will have a reduced caseload, up to a maximum of 17 at the end of Year 1. We will offer you regular reflective one to one and group supervisions and weekly learning sessions to support you to link theory into practice. Each NQSW will have a personal development plan, regular reviews of your progress and an opportunity to provide 360 feedback on your experience in Middlesbrough.

After 3-months in the Academy will invite you to a job fair which will help you decide which service are you would like to work in. You will be invited to express an interest in your chosen service area, NQSWs will then be linked to a ‘host’ team ready to move into post.

All NQSW are subject to a probationary period, linked to the ASYE offer. This will be reviewed formally at 12-months by your ASYE and Professional Development Manager and Team Manager.

All staff are entitled to up to 31 days annual leave, agile working and a range of employee benefits including high quality training & development, and a culture of high support and high challenge as we aspire to develop the best possible environment for good practice to develop.
