Children’s Services are seeking a Social Worker to join our Young People’s Service, based in Spennymoor.

The Young People’s Service works with young people aged 15+, who are looked after or leaving care and with young people aged 16+ who are children in need. The team undertakes:

• Statutory work related to looked after young people
• Assessments of the needs of homeless young people
• Assessments of the needs of asylum seeking young people
• Pathway plans for looked after young people, and young people leaving care
• Assessments of children in need using the single assessment and outcome focussed framework

Social Workers in the team are supported by a Team Manager, Senior Practitioner, Accommodation Co-ordinator, Supported Lodgings Officers, Young People’s Advisors and a Social Work Assistant.

We are looking for social workers who:

• Have experience of statutory social work with children, young people and families, ideally in looked after or leaving care services
• Enjoy working with young people, and are able to seek their views and opinions about their future
• Have strong assessment, planning and report writing skills
• Are able to manage time well
• Are willing and able to travel both inside and outside of County Durham, and sometimes Nationally, to carry out statutory visits with young people

To be apply for these posts you must:

• Hold a degree or post graduate diploma in social work, or equivalent social work qualification, for example the Certificate of Qualification in Social Work (CQSW), Certificate in Social Services (CSS) or Diploma in Social Work (DipSW)
• Be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
• Have at least 1 year of post qualification experience in social work
• Undergo Police Vetting, which us in addition to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosure

Interviews will be held on Monday 10th April 2017

You will also be invited to attend a young people's panel which will be held on the afternoon of Tuesday 11th April 2017.
