Grade 7/8 (SCP 26-36) £30,984 - £40,578 per annum

Interview date Friday 2nd September

Together for Children works on behalf of Sunderland City Council to deliver children’s services in the city, which means that local authority continuous service terms and conditions apply.

We are looking to appoint an experienced Social Worker to join our new and innovative Young Persons Team. Together for Children are excited to launch a specialist team which will work specifically with young people who experience risk outside of the home; young people who are being criminally and sexually exploited (including county lines) experience peer on peer abuse and gang association. These risks and worries can impact upon young people’s emotional wellbeing and mental health and lead to alcohol and substance misuse, affecting school attendance and relationships within the family. You will be allocated a small number of children and young people to work with to allow you to spend time with them. The successful candidate will be skilled in building meaningful relationships with young people, their families and professionals and have a good understanding and knowledge of contextual safeguarding. We are keen to hear from social workers who are creative in their practice, demonstrating tenacity and determination to affect positive change.

If you have these qualities and skills and are willing to go above and beyond when working with young people, we want to hear from you.
The Young Persons Team is a 12-month pilot. Your substantive post will be a Locality team where there is a vacancy seconded for 12 months to the Young Persons Team. There is potential for the pilot to be extended and become a permanent addition to our Locality Safeguarding Teams or an opportunity to work in other parts of the service where there is a vacancy.

Child-Centred, Respectful, Creative and Transparent are our company values and this is what you can expect from Together for Children when you join us. An Ofsted rated Outstanding service, ‘where all workers have reasonable caseloads and are well supported by visible and approachable managers; as a result, social workers are supported to carry out innovative work with children’ (Ofsted 2021)
You will have experience of undertaking assessments in Child in Need, Child Protection, Cared for Children, and Care proceedings. There will be an expectation that you will be creative and experienced in gaining the child’s views through good direct work. You will be expected to work collaboratively with partner agencies to provide a high level of support and intervention in response to assessed need.

You will join a small social work team and benefit from a high level of support and guidance from a Team Manager and Assistant Team Manager. Together for Children prides itself on a visible senior management team who promote a nurturing, learning environment with high support and high challenge.

Together for Children have adopted the Signs of Safety model of practice. Signs of Safety is embedded in all areas of practice across the service. Applications are welcomed from those with and without any knowledge and experience of Signs of Safety, as we have the benefit of an extensive training and support offer via our dedicated Signs of Safety team.

Together for Children firmly believe in investing in our workforce development and recognise the benefits of training our social work staff to equip them with the skills and knowledge to deliver good quality social work. Additional specialist training programmes currently offered to staff include Trauma Informed Practice and Safe & Together training. This training compliments new initiatives within Together for Children such as our new edge of care team ‘WEAR Together’ and specialist support services for children and young people who have experienced neglect and abuse. The Young Persons Team will work closely with WEAR Together to reduce risk and achieve better outcomes for young people.
As well as an extremely attractive and competitive salary, other benefits of working for Together for Children include flexible working arrangements and an agile working policy. You will benefit from a hybrid model of working whereby social work teams spend alternative weeks between a COVID secure office space and home working; this model has proved invaluable and popular with staff as it ensures they receive a high level of face to face support and supervision. We have free onsite parking, provide a Local Government Pension Scheme and flexi scheme. A good health and wellbeing programme is also provided to all employees.
