Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council have a number of Streetscene Environmental Apprenticeship opportunities within the Neighbourhoods and Customer Services Section. There are a broad range of duties which include Grounds Maintenance, Street Cleansing & Shrub Flower Bed Maintenance.

The Council’s aim is to appoint enthusiastic and capable individuals who are ambitious, hardworking who can display own initiative.

As part of the selection process applicants must demonstrate the potential to achieve an NVQ level 2.

There is a requirement for the successful candidates to attend college, educational sessions and other Council training development sessions, such as local induction sessions within Neighbourhoods and in line with the apprenticeship post.

Candidates must possess the following qualities and characteristics:

• Customer friendly
• Have a positive can do attitude
• Have a flexible approach to work

Typical duties will include:
Learning skills in cleaning and maintaining the foreshore attractions throughout the borough
Learning skills in cleaning and maintaining the main arterial routes in to the borough
Learning skills in operating hand operated grass cutting / street cleaning equipment
Learning skills in manual operations in grounds maintenance / street cleaning / beach maintenance / fly tipping removal
Learning skills in the household waste & recycling collection service
Learning skills in the application of chemicals for weed treatment & graffiti removal
Assisting in community events

The role has a requirement to work irregular hours, as duties will involve working weekends (including Bank Holidays) and a dedicated shift pattern including PM as part of a 5 over 7 day working week, as required to meet the needs of the service.
