Blaydon Lodge is a CQC registered short break service for individual people with autism or whose behaviour can place significant and substantial additional barriers to leading a full life beyond those faced by most people with learning disabilities.

You will need to have the relevant skills and diverse approach required to fulfil this role, including effective communication strategies and tools, working as part of a team, flexibility, reliability, motivation and have an empathetic approach to people with complex needs by promoting and delivering a person centred approach to individual support. You will also be required to demonstrate a high level of competence in literacy and numeracy skills.

You must have knowledge of key issues in relation to working with people with autism and/or challenging behaviour, as well as an understanding of current relevant legislation including CQC fundamental standards and Valuing People. Knowledge and experience of working with adults who have a learning disability is also essential.

You will be required to work in accordance with service policies and procedures, guidance and legislation e.g. risk assessments, physical intervention, health care procedures and safeguarding vulnerable adults.

In addition, you will be required to demonstrate that you value individuals' rights to choice, dignity and respect, provide support to people with their personal care needs including their day-to-day personal support and health care needs. You must have experience of administrating medication, including rescue medication and emergency first aid support in accordance with the person's own health action plan.

It is essential that you have a minimum of an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification and are committed to undertaking other training as part of your continued professional development. A current driving licence and access to a car or means to mobility support is also essential.
