The Service

Providing strategic procurement for Northumberland County Council & Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust; the Procurement Shared Service is a ground-breaking collaboration between Local Authority and NHS. The service, now into its fourth year, provides a sustainable and cost-effective procurement service, which helps drive economic benefits and service quality for its stakeholder organisations.

The role

This new and exciting role will play a significant part in addressing the climate emergency declared by the Council in June 2019. In particular by the role will focus on reviewing current procurement practices and policies to ensure they are contributed to the overarching strategies and action plans emerging to address the climate emergency. The role will raise awareness, be a subject matter expert and look to change behaviour both internally and externally so procurement can positively contribute to this agenda. An understanding of public sector procurement with a working knowledge and passion for sustainability and climate awareness will be a key requirement of this post, in order to ensure benefits realisation and continual improvement of key performance indicators.
The post holder will report directly to the Head of Procurement Shared Services in the first instance and will work closely with the Shared Service Contracting Team and key commissioners in order to develop and deliver sustainable procurement action plans.

Essential requirements:

Comprehensive working knowledge of current sustainability issues and frameworks to address the current challenges within public sector.
Understanding and awareness of relevant public sector procurement legislations, regulations and professional best practice
Demonstrated track record of successful delivery/contribution to a procurement and/or commercial work programmes for the purposes of delivering  sustainable outcomes
The ability to persuade Heads of Service and Senior Manager"
