(Level 4) Band 5

School for 140 pupils aged 4 to 11

Required from 1 September 2018

The Dales School is an outstanding Specialist School at an exciting time in its development. In September 2018, we will open an annex to our existing provision which will be referred to as ‘Ashdale’. This means our pupil numbers increase by over 50% to 140 place provision, spread across two sites.
Our aim is that every pupil learns the skills and develops the confidence needed to become a valued, integrated and independent member of their community.
Present provision is focused on children whose needs are identified as: Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH); Autistic Spectrum Condition, and; other complex needs.
We are seeking to recruit Teaching Assistants to contribute to the effective development and maintenance of the high quality provision already offered at The Dales School.
Ashdale is seen as a ground-breaking venture which, in its planning and provision, will see education and health work together to provide individual programmes. These are intended to allow children to engage with learning opportunity through improved social and emotional interaction.
Further, into the future, there are plans for an additional phase of development of provision into key stages 3 and 4.
At The Dales we have a history of effective professional development for and with our non-teaching staff. An apprenticeship programme has been in place for 7 years allowing the opportunity to enter toward a level 2 NVQ and, dependant on progress and opportunity, move to level 3. This programme has now seen one of our first apprentices successfully complete NVQ 2 and 3, gained a foundation degree, then a PGCE and has now completed her Newly Qualified Teacher year. Others are involved in first degrees, PGCEs and other specialist training.
Non-teaching staff at The Dales work in a range of settings: Classroom / Team based; Family Support; Family Learning; Rebound Therapy; Speech, Language and Communications; THRIVE; Art and Technology; Apprentice mentorship and management; stock control, and; Intervention Team, for example.
The Intervention Team is led by the ‘Behaviour, Intervention, Outreach and Assessment Manager’, who is a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Staff ,who make up the intervention team, are tasked to provide individual and small group support in a variety of forms. Duties include assessment; counselling; tuition; coaching; reporting, and; individual programmes of care and development.
