Horizons Specialist Academy Trust consists of five academies across Stockton-on-Tees and Middlesbrough serving a population of approximately 500 students aged 5 to 19 with a broad range of learning difficulties.

Westlands Academy is situated in Thornaby and provides for 75 students aged 11 to 16 years who have SEMHD, as well as other learning difficulties, and in addition has a 15 place residential unit. Westlands Academy was rated by Ofsted in December 2016 as 'good' in all areas.

The Trust is seeking to appoint a Teacher of Science to join their team at Westlands Academy in Thornaby. We are looking for a teacher who has the skills to work with young people who have a variety of special educational needs, giving particular attention to their social and behavioural as well as educational requirements. The successful candidate will join an experienced and successful team who are committed to high standards in promoting the education and welfare of young people with SEMHD.

Applications are welcome from newly qualified or experienced teachers from a secondary background. It is essential that the successful candidate has excellent subject knowledge and can deliver Science at Entry Level & GCSE as well as having good communication and interpersonal skills and the flexibility and willingness to offer a range of subjects.

Candidates must have an interest in Special Educational Needs and have a very patient, calm and resilient nature and a resolve to make a real difference to the lives of children. Previous experience of working with students with SEMHD would be an advantage.
