Horizons Specialist Academy Trust consists of four academies and one sixth form across Stockton-on-Tees and Middlesbrough serving a population of approximately 550 students aged 5 to 19 with a broad range of learning difficulties.

Hollis Academy is situated in Middlesbrough and provides for 85 pupils aged 11 to 16 years who have SEMHD as their identified primary need. Hollis Academy joined the Trust in October 2016 as a sponsor academy. Since that time, rapid progress towards improvement has been realised due to the commitment of the staff team and senior leadership team.

The Trust is seeking to appoint a Teacher of Science to join their team at Hollis Academy in Middlesbrough. We are looking for a teacher who has the skills to work with young people who have a variety of special educational needs, giving particular attention to their social, emotional and mental health difficulties as well as educational requirements.

The successful candidate will join an experienced and successful team who are committed to high standards in promoting the education and welfare of young people with SEMHD.

Applications are welcome from newly qualified or experienced teachers from a secondary background. It is essential that the successful candidate has excellent subject knowledge and can deliver Science at Entry Level & GCSE as well as having good communication and interpersonal skills and the flexibility and willingness to offer a range of subjects.

Candidates must have an interest in Special Educational Needs and have a very patient, calm and resilient nature and a resolve to make a real difference to the lives of children. Previous experience of working with students with SEMHD would be an advantage.

Visits to the academy are welcome and highly recommended. To arrange this and/or to obtain an application form and further information please e-mail Mrs Julie Povall on: julie.povall@horizonstrust.org.uk or telephone 01642 677113.
