Small enough to care, big enough to make a positive impact

As a 13-18 school in south east Northumberland with good standards of teaching and behaviour, we believe passionately that every student should be enabled to succeed in all aspects of school life. Building on our recent ‘Good’ rating by Ofsted and achieving first place in the DfE Key Stage 4 national performance tables for similar schools in 2015 and 2016, we continue to strive for further improvements.

Joining a dedicated team of Science specialists, you will mainly focus on the delivery of Biology including at sixth form level for the BTEC Level 3 in Applied Science. With a strong sense of purpose and drive to improve student attainment and progress, we will support you to further develop your career and professional practice. The ability to teach A-level Sociology is also an advantage but is not essential.

This role offers a reduced teaching timetable to act as Student Progress Leader for Year 9 and you will have lead responsibility for pastoral and attendance issues for around 120 students, supported by our two Student Support Officers. You will also work in close co-operation with our two feeder middle schools, which share a single Executive Headteacher with the high school, to ensure a smooth transition for students as they start their high school education.

Although this post is primarily to teach at Astley Community High School, you may be required to teach at Whytrig Middle School as both schools share the same site.

Our candidate information pack will tell you much more about this vacancy and the school. Visits to the school are also warmly welcomed and encouraged. Please contact Graham Scott, Assistant Headteacher – Student Support on 0191 2371505 to make an appointment.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It is essential that all staff and volunteers share this commitment. An enhanced criminal records check from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required for all posts.

Interested in applying? A completed application form and criminal records declaration form must be submitted by 12 noon on 10 January 2017 by e-mail to achsjobs@svlp.org.uk
