Further Information
Gateshead is launching an additional Safeguarding and Care Planning Team to work with children and their families subject to Child in Need arrangements, Child Protection Plans and statutory intervention including Family Court processes.

Currently, there are four children's Safeguarding Teams in Gateshead. The creation of a fifth team is to limit the number of social workers each Team Manager supervises, as this will allow for enhanced support and managerial availability. The successful candidate will be involved in the development and identity of the new team.

In Safeguarding and Care Planning we have stable staff teams, minimal use of agency social workers and consistent and supportive senior management oversight.

We are looking to appoint a Team Manager to lead the work of the newly created team. You will have significant experience of practicing statutory child care social work in a multi-disciplinary setting and managing the work of child care Social Workers. You must have demonstrable skills in delivering interventions with complex and challenging families and the ability to analyse and evaluate complex situations and risk. You will feel comfortable in making justifiable professional decisions whilst working with reasonable levels of autonomy. Your knowledge base will demonstrate expert understanding of social work legislation, family court processes and statutory guidance, assessment and social work methodologies, ideally including systemic practice, (although we are working towards training all our staff in this approach.) You will be empathic, enabling and resilient with a 'can do', solution focussed approach.

Please contact Chris O'Reilly, Service Manager Safeguarding and Care Planning for questions and/or informal discussion on 0191 433 3865.
