FIXED TERM CONTRACT (2 YEARS)

Our purpose is to champion the full potential of our region. Collaborating with our partners and local authorities, we’ll create a better way of life by connecting communities, giving people the skills to succeed, and improving wellbeing for all, so that the North East is recognised as an outstanding place to live, work, visit and invest.

Have you ever considered the stories behind the journeys on our transport network each day; and how a future network can unleash the potential of a region and its people? At the North East Combined Authority (North East CA) our role is to develop those future plans and secure the investment to deliver them.

We have two graduate level opportunities for people who are excited by the potential of North East England and are looking to develop their skills in transport planning and local government policy development.

We welcome applications from those who have already completed their degrees (or equivalent qualifications), as well as those who are due to graduate this year – subject to confirmation of award.

The role will have a key focus on supporting the North East CA in developing transport strategies and policies, managing projects, developing regional funding bids and the production of briefing notes and consultation responses for a range of audiences.  These projects go beyond transport, they write the story of the future of a region, its environment, its economy and most importantly the lives of its people.

For passengers and freight, the North East CA oversees strategic transport planning at a regional level, representing the seven local authorities in our region.

This role involves work with partners so you will be required to confidently and competently network outside the core North East CA Transport team. You’ll need to be a good listener too: all our partners have distinct needs which you need to take the time to understand.

Critically, you will have writing and communication skills. Your work will be read and considered by influential stakeholders including regional politicians, transport operators and government departments.

By the end of the placement, you will have worked alongside teams setting the direction for transport in our region. Using data and making factual arguments to support your approach you will contribute to the strategies and policies which underpin decisions and calls for investment. Whatever your background, if you have the skills and imagination to support us, we would love to hear from you.

In return for your valuable contribution, you will have access to an excellent benefits package:

  • Generous leave entitlement, starting at 27 days, rising to 32 days after 5 years continuous service, plus 8 bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time staff) with an additional day off for your birthday.
  • Flexible working practices including working from other locations and from home.
  • A generous employer contribution pension scheme.
  • A range of salary sacrifice schemes.
  • Commitment to staff development and continuous learning.
  • Progression and career enhancement opportunities.

If you have the skills and qualities to succeed in this role and are committed to delivering the combined authority’s vision and values, we look forward to hearing from you.
