Hartlepool Borough Council’s Adult Education Service has set ambitious plans for its future as informed within the Adult Education Strategy 2016-2026 which supports the Council’s priorities of improving employment and skills levels, a culture of entrepreneurship, regeneration, business growth, community learning, community cohesion and supporting with the reduction of child and family poverty.

In recent years, Adult Education has undergone positive transformational changes to move it closer to becoming an outstanding training provider and in November 2017 the service was inspected by Ofsted, securing a Grade 2 (Good) with excellent features. Alongside this, the service is the first Adult Education ever in the Country to secure the four awards of matrix standards, Investors in Volunteering (2016), Investors in Careers (2017) and Investors in People (Silver Award) (2017). These awards recognise the highest quality provision offered to learners, the community and businesses and the commitment and dedication of all staff and volunteers.

Building on the strengths of a forward thinking team, Adult Education are now seeking to appoint an experienced full-time Tutor Coordinator on a permanent basis.

As such, we are looking for an experienced and qualified Tutor with the appropriate skills to lead, coordinate and deliver activities in a wide range of areas such as Business Administration, Health and Social Care and Community and Family Learning.

Working within the established Curriculum Team, the core duties within this role include monitoring the performance of Tutors and Assessors including undertaking observations of Teaching, Learning and Assessment (OTLA), develop and manage programmes which meet the needs of learners and businesses, support the delivery of the curriculum plan, develop effective partnerships with community based organisations and businesses, ensure that the service meets Ofsted and externally funded organisations requirements, contribute to recruitment, induction and training and provide ongoing support to relevant staff to ensure the service plan, strategy and targets are met.

It is essential that the successful candidate is a qualified tutor who has an indepth understanding of Ofsted’s Common Inspection Framework (CIF) and quality assurance practices and standards in relation to post-16 learning, and knowledge to support all aspects of teaching and learning within the service.

As a qualified tutor, you will be required to teach an agreed minimum number of hours on programmes as agreed by the Learning & Skills Manager.

The candidate will be familiar with the purpose and aims of the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and be able to comply with policies and procedures established by the Council, Ofsted and other bodies as required.

The candidate must possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills, be highly motivated, able to plan and monitor their own workload and meet tight deadlines.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Check via the Disclosure & Barring Service (previously known as the CRB).
