The Service
The Joint Equipment Loans Service (JELS) are part of the Adults Social Care service. The team are responsible for the purchase, storage and distribution of a huge variety of equipment. We deliver more than 58,000 pieces of community equipment to people across Northumberland each year. The equipment we provide is loaned and there is no charge for the use of this service.

The main purpose of the service is to provide a large range of equipment to allow people to live as independently as possible in their own home and prevent unnecessary admission to hospital and to facilitate and support discharge to their preferred place of residence/care.

Equipment can assist people with the tasks of daily life and make it easier to provide care for them and protect them from accidents. It can also help people to move back home from hospital or avoid them having to be admitted to hospital by promoting independence and self-care.

The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the JELS Warehouse and Driving Team for a Warehouse Person & Driver Apprentice. Although applicants do not need to have any prior experience, they must have prior work experience and be willing to undertake duties and training to gain experience here at JELS in a busy work environment. All responsibilities will be supported with offsite apprenticeship training. We would welcome someone with an aptitude for hard work and a caring manner as we deliver community equipment to vulnerable clients.

The primary role of our apprentice is to learn through apprentice training, the various activities within our warehouse including taking in deliveries, checking for damaged/missing items, storing goods, moving stock by various methods, picking/packing orders, loading equipment for dispatch, maintaining stock records and documentation and cleaning. They are required to safely use a range of equipment, e.g. fork lift and drive vehicles. To ensure rehabilitation equipment is received, decontaminated, maintained and issued effectively and efficiently. To collect, load/unload and transport equipment to and from Client’s homes, residential homes and hospitals.

Our Warehouse drivers communicate with a wide range of professionals and clients. They have a passion to meet customers’ expectations by providing a high-quality service, which enhances clients lives. Staff will often be required to be flexible and be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines.

Although applicants do not need to have any prior experience, they must be willing to undertake duties and training to gain experience in Supply chain warehouse operative (level 2), all responsibilities will be supported with offsite apprenticeship training.

Our Apprenticeships are structured training programmes which give you the opportunity to gain on the job experience whilst working towards a recognised apprenticeship standard. They help you gain the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in your chosen industry. Getting into employment earlier means there's lots of potential for you to progress in your career quickly. What you need:
- GCSE Maths and English Grade 4/C or above (or predicted) or Level 2 Functional skills.
