Wise Steps: Building Better Opportunities has been awarded GBP 7.2 million by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund to support people facing barriers to work in neighbourhoods across Gateshead, Newcastle, Sunderland, and North Tyneside and South Tyneside.

The project will assist 2,000 people to access employment and work experience opportunities, support them to achieve qualifications and improve their wellbeing and life chances. Support will be available to all residents of Tyne & Wear who are of working age, unemployed or economically inactive, and have multiple challenges to getting into work. The target groups will include unemployed people, people with disabilities, black and minority ethnic (BME) individuals, ex-offenders and lone parents.

Gateshead Council's Economic & Housing Growth Service will deliver Wise Steps in Gateshead as part of the Council's efforts to create a strong, sustainable and inclusive economy.

The Service works across the policy areas that drive growth - the business environment, labour market, housing market and physical infrastructure - with the aim of boosting prosperity and reducing economic inequality.

Wise Steps presents an exciting opportunity for motivated, results driven individuals to join Gateshead Council as Wise Steps Job Coach.

You will provide high quality support, guidance and mentoring to Gateshead residents to help them move closer to and into work. You will work in a collaborative way with individuals and a network of 15 locally based specialist delivery partners to drive transformational change and positively challenge barrier to moving forwards.

You must have knowledge of barriers to employment, the local labour market and out of work benefits.

You must be qualified in NVQ Level 4 Information Advice & Guidance or prepared to work towards.

You must have experience of sourcing and retaining suitable participants onto provision, working to job start and/or job outcome targets, delivering interventions to help unemployed people into work and case management with the ability to broker support with external agencies.

Interviews will be on Monday 5th June 2017.
