This is Redcar and Cleveland. We are an ambitious council keen to build on our strong track record of innovation and partnership working, ensuring that we create a flourishing future for the borough and all of its residents. Key to this is a committed workforce who always gives their best. Offering a fast paced, progressive working environment, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is a great career move.

Redcar and Cleveland is an area of great contrasts with world class industries, market towns, visitor destinations, beautiful coastline and stunning countryside. The Council continues to invest in the area to create opportunities for investment and growth. Key to this work is the Growth, Enterprise and Environment Directorate which leads on our efforts to build upon successful investment and develop an exciting growth programme that will bring long-term improvements to the local economy and environment, create jobs and build vibrant communities.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an appropriately qualified and OR knowledgeable and experienced individual to join our Countryside Ranger team. Within this role you will work to promote conservation, recreation and environmental education within Country Parks/Visitor Centres, woodlands, local nature reserves and the wider countryside. You will also support the Countryside Access Ranger on PROW/access works when required. You will lead on projects to enhance biodiversity, access and visual amenity of greenspace sites and provide support to Countryside Volunteers and community groups to achieve these aims. We are looking for somebody with practical experience in carrying out and leading a variety of conservation tasks and activities.
The ability to confidently lead groups of volunteers, young people and adults is important. Our Countryside Rangers work with a variety of groups, with a range of needs. Experience of health & safety and risk assessments in relation to working with volunteers and site maintenance would be useful.

To be a success in this role, you will require excellent communication skills, be customer focussed with a flexible approach to work, presenting yourself positively. You will be an innovative problem solver with the ability to develop strong working relationships internally and with partner organisations. You will be an effective verbal and written communicator, required to provide educational talks and presentations to a range of audiences.

The council is an accredited Investors in People employer at gold level and holds ambassador status for the North East Better Health at Work Award.

We offer very attractive terms and conditions of employment, including generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working hours (where appropriate), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and access to numerous other salary sacrifice schemes and staff benefits/discounts, including a lease car scheme.
