Active Newcastle are the forefront of change in tackling levels of inactivity across the city and an exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team to lead and develop the cycling programme across Newcastle.

We are looking for an exceptional, innovative, forward thinking person to join our team to cover a period of maternity leave. The successful person will be expected to develop a cycling strategy for the city which clearly demonstrates our approach to tackling inactivity through cycling using the network and opportunities across Newcastle.

Our ambition is for cycling to become “the norm” and an easy and safe choice for people whether that be for commuting, active travel or socially. With that in mind, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate their knowledge with regards to the many different avenues of cycling, it’s benefits and most importantly engaging those who don’t already “ride.”

You will be expected to have practical experience, knowledge and understanding of community sport, be able to work a range of hours including weekends on occasion, be motivated to work on your own and within a team and have the confidence and ability to build strong, lasting partnerships.

The focus will be on Cycling activities across the City, influencing and sustaining the key stakeholders and partners to raise levels of participation in key areas of the City.

The role will be based within the Active Newcastle team at Newcastle Civic Centre but travel around the city is frequent.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.

Apply online at www.northeastjobs.org.uk.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
