Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council prides itself on being a great place to work where staff are trusted, valued and supported to make a positive contribution at work. Despite the pandemic the Council continues to have ambitious plans for the future.

Are you passionate about improving the quality of care planning for the children and young people we support across Stockton-on-Tees? If so, we are looking for motivated and experienced Social Workers or Social Work Managers who are committed to providing an excellent service to vulnerable children and young people and their families.

As an Independent Reviewing Officer, you will be responsible for chairing statutory reviews for children and young people in our care, including in adoptive placements. You will have a key role for monitoring the effectiveness and implementation of plans. You will also chair Child Protection Conferences in line with current local Safeguarding Children Partnership procedures. Post 2 will have a specific focus on foster care reviews and will work closely with the Child Placement Team, whilst retaining a small caseload of children in our care and child protection review cases.

You will need to have a sound knowledge of childcare legislation, safeguarding, inter-agency policies and procedures and current developments in children’s services. You will also contribute to audits and provide a quality assurance role for social work practice.

The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

In return we offer a supportive team environment; we are committed to continuous professional development and offer regular supervision and annual appraisal. We offer an excellent total reward package including a competitive salary, generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement as well as access to a number of additional employee benefits and a wide range of learning and development opportunities.

If you feel you have the skills and drive to complement our needs, then we would like to hear from you.

This post is open to experienced Social Workers only, applicants must evidence the skills and ability to confidently assess and manage situations where there are Child Protection issues and high levels of need.

Interviews will take place on 12th May 2021.
