Further Information

Northumberland Fire & Rescue Service are inviting applications for the role of Driving Training Instructor. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced person to join #teamNorthumberland and take on an important role in supporting our staff to keep our residents safe and well.

Working within our Learning & Development department, the post holder will deliver or assist in the delivery of driver training programmes to meet statutory and individual development needs of all personnel, including but not exclusively:

· Initial licence acquisition of categories B, B+E, C, C1 & D1

· RTITB Plant Operator courses (Forklift, Hooklift, Winch)

· City & Guilds Winter Services

· MiDAS

· Off Road Driving

· Driving Assessments

· Vehicle Familiarisation

· CPC training

To plan and carry out assessments against nationally recognised standards to ensure compliance and enabling learners to reach their potential. Recent experience of assessment is essential.

We are looking for an individual holding the above licence categories, each for at least three years, with experience of instruction and advanced driving techniques.

Applicants should also hold proof of continual professional development in the area of driving and driver training.

Ideally applicants will have a comprehensive working knowledge of current road traffic legislation and the statutory responsibilities of a driver. They will need good written and verbal skills, interpersonal and organisational skills as well as being able to prioritise tasks and motivate themselves.

This post requires the individual to work for long periods with extended concentration and the ability to make risk-critical assessment decisions in difficult situations.

The post may suit someone looking for flexibility around their current work or home commitments or someone looking to supplement their current role with additional ad-hoc work. There are no guaranteed or set hours available, but this will be discussed with you at the point of application.

You will be subject to Northumberland County Council’s pre-employment checking process which includes a minimum of two references covering the past three years, health clearance and proof of right to work in the UK and, depending on the assignment, a DBS check.

You will also be required to undertake role related tests as part of an application for this role.
