The successful candidate will be based with the Employability Team of the Learning and Skills Service, working alongside employability and curriculum programme staff including Employment Coaches, Business Advisers, Tutors and with other Council services supporting residents to take up employment and training opportunities.

The role
The primary function of the Employment and Skills Trainer will be to work with the Employment Coaches and/or Employers, promoting training and identifying the training needs of Learners and/or the needs of Employers. You will be responsible for creating and delivering training; assessing against relevant criteria on accredited qualification delivery; evaluating outcomes; providing follow-up support to learners; administration and continuous improvement of training. You will use a variety of training skills and activities in line with contract needs to engage and empower learners focussing on their transferable skills to progress them to achieve sustainable employment. You will support a personal caseload of learners and contribute to the wider team performance objectives.


Courses delivered will be to unemployed residents and may include (but not be limited to) digital employability support, health and wellbeing sessions, mock interview preparation, CV creation etc. You will use a variety of training skills and activities to engage and empower learners linking your sessions to emerging employment opportunities across Northumberland that will progress learners to achieve sustainable employment. It is imperative that you have a good understanding and knowledge of Northumberland, along with knowledge of vocational sectors, employment programme requirements and relevant legislation. You will provide regular feedback to curriculum and employment programme staff when required and will contribute to the services QIP and SAR.

We are looking to appoint an individual who can demonstrate significant teaching and coaching experience working with clients who have barriers to employment and who can move away from traditional direct delivery mechanisms to deliver remotely, therefore, you should be confident delivering to an audience virtually and face to face. A willingness to travel locally (e.g. to deliver training/courses/meet Learners/Employers) is essential, as is an interest in people and the ability to act as a peer and mentor to leaners and colleagues.
