Democratic Services/ Registrars

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Council’s Electoral Services team, reporting to the Service Manager Democratic Services.
We are looking for someone who has experience and enthusiasm for all aspects of electoral services and who is keen to be innovative and creative in the way that we promote electoral registration, maintain the register of electors and support the organisation of all elections, referenda and other polls, in accordance with legislation. As a vibrant and dynamic student city, encouraging student voter registration will form part of the role, as will working with partners to increase participation of underrepresented groups.
The post will provide plenty of opportunities to work with our partners and stakeholders both locally and nationally, ensuring that we meet and exceed performance measures and are prepared for national changes to elections and electoral registration. Working with our small, but friendly and experienced Electoral Services team, you’ll bring the experience and knowledge to help us strengthen our approach to electoral registration and elections and play a wider strategic role across the organisation.
Through our Elections Board, chaired by the Returning Officer, our approach draws in wide ranging support from across the Council. You’ll play a key role in advising the Board and the various workstreams, bringing resourcefulness, strong organisation and motivation skills and the ability to balance conflicting priorities, whilst working under pressure to deadlines.
If you feel that this role is for you or would like any further information, please contact Linda Scott, Service Manager Democratic Services, on 0191 2115159 for an informal discussion or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that the position will require some unsociable hours at key times in the electoral cycle.
