St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School is seeking to appoint an outstanding Head of Religious Education. Our extremely successful Religious Education department aims to mould spiritually self-aware aware young men who treat others with compassion and respect as well as academically critical Theologians who are philosophical in nature and do not shirk difficult tasks or questions. We deliver a broad and ambitious curriculum, ranging from studying the life of St Cuthbert to the death penalty, all of which is underpinned by excellent teaching. We achieve among the best GCSE results in the Diocese and most of our A Level students from the past three years have gone on to Russell Group universities; many studying theology and philosophy. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop within an established and supportive team of colleagues.
The ideal candidate will have studied theology/religious studies at degree level and will be familiar with the Catholic GCSE and A Level specifications. The role will involve specific responsibilities for KS4, KS5 and Y13 General RE (working alongside the 2nd in RE for KS3), having a lead role on the school’s Chaplaincy Team and assisting with the planning, provision and continual development of our RSE programme.
Above all, we are looking for someone who will help our boys become better men and show them the difference that they can make in the world. The ability to extend pupils’ engagement beyond the school day, through co-curricular activities would be an advantage.
