Horizons Specialist Academy Trust consists of seven Academies and one Sixth Form across the Tees Valley area and North Yorkshire serving a population in excess of 750 students aged 5 to 19 with a broad range of learning difficulties.
The Trust wishes to appoint a General Teacher to join our existing friendly team. Westlands Academy is located in Thornaby and caters for students aged 11-16 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH) and was rated as ‘Good’ in our most recent Ofsted.
We are looking for the right person to work alongside our current teaching staff and to work with young people who have a variety of special educational needs, giving particular attention to their social and behavioral as well as educational needs. The successful candidate will join an experienced and successful team who are committed to high standards and promoting the education and welfare of young people with SEMHD. This post is suitable for both secondary and primary trained teachers.
The ideal candidate will:
• Work closely with staff to promote student learning, achievement and progress.
• Have experience of teaching a variety of subjects. The ability to offer English and/or mathematics from KS2 through to Entry Level and above would be beneficial for our students.
• Be aware of the challenges of working with pupils with SEMH.
