This is a 2 Year Fixed Term role as part of a rolling programme to provide opportunities to care leavers. It is not anticipated that there will be any opportunity to extend the role beyond the 2 year fixed term. This is to enable as many young people as possible to be given the opportunity to gain experience of employment.

Would you like to be part of an exciting project which will transform our offer to young people leaving care in South Tyneside?

By putting young people in the lead, we will deliver changes to services which make the most difference to them.  Bringing together people and services, we will create new opportunities for young people leaving care to help them achieve their goals. This will include improving their experience in a range of areas, from accommodation, well-being and relationships, through to skills for education training and employment.

We are looking for a care experienced individual, who has received a leaving care service, to contribute to the best possible outcomes for children looked after and young people leaving care in South Tyneside.

As the Leaving Care Ambassador, you will help to develop support for Care Leavers, and be a voice for Care Leavers, across the Council and its partners/stakeholders.  The role will support the Children and Families service by sharing insight and advice; communicating with other care experienced young people, seeking opinions and learning from the experience of others.

For an informal discussion about this role please contact Mark Benson, Participation Lead on (0191) 4247757, or Lynne Kell, Practice Manager, Leaving care on (0191) 4272467.

You will be expected to:

  • Be respectful of the experience and views of other children and young people at all times.
  • Work within our guidelines for data protection and confidentiality - this means we ensure that personal data is not shared or misunderstood.
  • Work within other Safeguarding policies and procedures as advised.

We offer an excellent benefits package and further information is available here - www.southtyneside.gov.uk/workinghere

South Tyneside Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.  We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure will be sought along with other relevant pre-employment checks.

Please note that if you apply for this role, all communication regarding your application will be sent to the email address that you have registered with North East Jobs, please ensure you check your junk mail.
